Mixer Brain by Jeff Ellis is 30% off right now

I found Mixer Brain to be both entertaining and genuinely useful. What stood out to me most was that Jeff does not present himself as some untouchable expert handing down rules. He comes across more like a guide, which makes the material easier to absorb and apply.

The course gave me a lot of perspective and validation around what it actually takes to mix at a high level. It reinforced that great mixing is not about having endless gear, software, or tricks. It is about intention, hierarchy, restraint, contrast, and making better decisions in service of the song.

For me, the biggest value has been how much the ideas have carried beyond mixing itself. I have used the concepts in production sessions, arrangement conversations, and communication with artists. It helped me become more intentional about what stays in, what gets cut, and how to avoid the common trap of solving every problem by adding another layer.

It also reinforced a creative mindset I already care a lot about: not shutting ideas down, but asking “yes, and how?” That balance of openness and restraint has made me more effective in the room with artists.

Mixer Brain has paid for itself many times over. It has made me a better mixer, a better collaborator, and a more trusted resource for the artists I work with. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to think more deeply about mixing as a decision-making process, not just a technical one.
