Bio
Dereck Blackburn is a recording, mixing and mastering engineer and the owner of Quiethouse Recording, a studio on Boston's North Shore. Quiethouse began in 1998 as a collective of friends in bands, booking shows and recording on a cassette 8-track in the Chicago suburbs. After a career detour through radio, IT leadership and an early role at Netflix, he went full-time in audio in 2009.
Recent work includes Miss Bones' Sap Green, Le Couteau's Now You're Nowhere, Memory Lame's Hope Is a Cemetery, mastering for Crippling Alcoholism and Twilight Dial, and a commissioned remix for Imogen Heap. He worked with Steve Albini on several projects and brings that artist-first approach to every session.
Dereck co-founded the Audio Builders Workshop through AES Boston, is a voting member of the Recording Academy and serves on its Producers & Engineers Wing committee in New York. Each April and October he runs a mentorship program for minority and queer voices in audio.
