Dereck Blackburn is a recording, mixing, and mastering engineer based in Boston and the owner of Quiethouse Recording. Active since 1998, Quiethouse has evolved from its beginnings as a artist collective to a full service audio engineering business maintaining a consistent focus on independent and DIY music.

Dereck began recording in the hardcore and punk community of his small Midwestern hometown, documenting bands and house shows with an eight-track Tascam cassette recorder. Those formative experiences continue to shape his artist-first approach: preserve identity, reject unnecessary convention, and make decisions that serve the record rather than the prevailing trend.

Across tracking, mixing, and mastering, Dereck works to give artists an experienced outside perspective without replacing the character that brought the music to life. His goal is to create records that feel focused, lasting, and inseparable from the people who made them.

Dereck has served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Boston Section of the Audio Engineering Society. He is a multiple-time nominee for Studio Engineer of the Year at the Boston Music Awards and Producer of the Year at the New England Music Awards. He currently serves as a member of the Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing and is a multiple year GRAMMYU Mentor.
