Cut it, then bend it
DROPOUT is a short-form video editor with a video-bending rig built in. Cut vertical or widescreen clips on a timeline, then push them through analog glitches, film looks and feedback, and steer it all live with a camera, a MIDI controller or the beat of your track.
Four ways in
Edit
A fast timeline built for 9:16 and 16:9.
- Magnetic storyline, overlay track, text and music lanes
- Trim, split, reorder, speed 0.25×–4×, reverse, freeze frame
- Seven transitions, from crossfade to glitch and whip pan
- Detach audio, clip volume up to 200%, fades
Bend
Around fifty looks, each fully adjustable.
- Circuit-bent analog: sync roll, chroma bleed, enhancer burn, luma rainbow, feedback
- Real datamosh from optical flow, slit-scan, stutter
- Film halation, light leaks, gate weave, your own LUTs
- Morph pad: drag to drive a look harder or swing its tone
Perform
Effects that move with the music.
- Audio-reactive routing from lows, mids, highs and transients
- Tap tempo and beat-synced strobe and stutter
- MIDI learn for knobs and pads, with automation recording
- Keyframes for anything, shown as diamonds on the clip
Shoot live
Point a camera or capture card at it.
- Real-time effects on the live feed
- Record takes straight into the project
- Separate subject and background with people masking
- Vertical or horizontal capture
The looks
Every look is a starting point. Open it in the inspector and change any part of it, or roll the Wildcard for a random combination.

The details
- Export
- MP4 at 720p, 1080p or 4K, 24, 30 or 60 fps, H.264 or HEVC. Text and captions are burned in.
- Captions
- Speech in your clips is transcribed on your Mac and laid out as animated caption clips you can edit. Pick any font installed on your Mac for titles and captions.
- Projects
- Projects are small files that point at your media rather than copying it, like a DAW session. Moved files are found again, and unsaved work is recovered if the app quits unexpectedly.
- Privacy
- Everything happens on your Mac. Video, audio, camera and speech never leave it, and DROPOUT collects no data.
- Requirements
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. Signed and notarized by Apple.
